Fan Mail, Messages, and General Bullshit

This stuff is what people have emailed me about Psychefunkapus. It's either about the page itself, or the band or whatever they feel like talking about or whatever. If you want to be on here, mail me at patrick@spy.net and babble on like a fool about how Psychefunkapus is your favorite band. Since some of the band members do in fact read this page, they'll know how cool you think they are. Atom requested the return of this page, so here it is.....enjoy :) Oh, and if you mail me and you don't want to be seen here, please tell me that, or else your stuff will be on this page.

I just found your home page for Psychefunkapus. I found your =
interpretation of Evol-ving interesting. Did you ever think of it as =
being a Jekyll/Hyde story? And I always thought of Banana Slug King as =
being about Jabba the Hut from the Star Wars movies. You can hear Jabba =
laughing at the end of the song and isn't Jabba slug-like? It may sound =
odd but people have written songs about stranger things. But no matter =
what: I love these guys! What a band. Have you heard of any of the =
members getting into or starting other bands?

Psychefunkapus were great, weren't they. I myself am from Marin county, san rafael, my city, is not far from "point reyes ca". but were they from the san geronimo valley? anyway, i have skin, and an old worn out demo of psychefunkapus that their manager's ex?girlfriend gave my mom years ago, but slut child has partially disappeared, unfortunately. i agree, am is the strongest song on the album. i saw these guys in concert a couple of times; once at a county fair (crazy,no? i'm not sure any one knew who they were yet), and then at their farewell marin? concert, with skankin pickle and my friends old band, cfb. i hope this email isn't just too dorky :) its always fun to get mail so. ok then . if i think of anything else, i'll write again. please write to me. bye, marit.oh yeah, my names marit, i go to ucla, i can't type. i'm 18. i couldn't believe there was a psychefunkapus page, ah the internet.

I think your Psychefunkapus home page is way cool. I play bass and I snowboard. I was watching this snowboard film the other night, it was called Riders On The Storm, and it had the song "Eyeball" by Psychefunkapus. It just blew me away. I had to gather the most of my brain with a teaspoon from the back wall of my room. After that I played the song over and over again. I had never heard of the band before, but the song made me a fan right away. I would appreciate very, very much if I could get e-mail or some music tapes from you. I'll pay ANYTHING, I just want to hear some more Psychefunkapus. Please write me back, my address is juhake@gustav.mantta.fi With best wishes Juhani Keskinen, Mänttä, Finland

Saw your Web page and I think it's great. Cool graphics! I'm hoping that the band continues to record although I heard rumors that they have broken up a couple years. But that's just a rumor I heard from a record store clerk. I live in the Bay Area and have caught some of their shows. Two here in San Jose and one down in Santa Barbara when I was going to UCSB. In fact, my neighbor at UCSB went to high school with some of the members back in Marin and had them over his place for a party after their gig at the UCSB Pub (seating capacity: 65). This was after their first album and no one knew who the hell they were. Let me know if you hear any news about the band. They definitely one of the most underrated bands around. And I'll let you know if I catch anything around the Bay Area. They used to play clubs all over the place here and used to make it in articles about the local band scene but I haven't seen anything for well over two years. Talk to you later and keep up the cool page. --Rob

Since the first listen, I got Skin, but I haven't found anything else. I guess that's it for albums, but I still look for bootlegs and such. For Psychefunkapus fans: I got another album from a band called Fungo Mungo titled "Humungous" that sound a little like P-funk-apus, and in the sleve of the CD, they include them in their thank you's. I liked the CD so much, I taped it and stuck it im my tape player in my car. 4 years later when I sold the car, the tape came out. but I somehow misplaced both tapes and the CD. I would REALLY REALLY like to get a copy of that so I can play it while I am working. after graduation from high school in 91, I was suprised to see another album by the crew. I had to snatch it up for 16 bucks. I still play the CD often, but I don't enjoy it as much as the scathing social statements made by their debut. Surfing on jupiter, hillbilly happy smash, and banana slug king are the best cuts off of this album. I still enjoy the other more sappy songs on the CD too. if you see a copy of thier self titled debut, please buy it and send it to me COD or something. thanks Tony/pierre@stolaf.edu -- Anthony Pierre Programmer Atlas Software

To be perfectly honest with you, I never liked how our records turned out at all..epecially the first one. I thought it (the first album) was ruined by the over production and I can't help but agree with alot of what the harsh critic that you included on the page (why?) said about it. But the band was very fun "Live" (our true medium) and it's touching to see that people actually remembered. Thanks... As for Dieselhed, it's a totally different band...Kind of a country punk thing. You may like it and you may not. We are going to play at the South by Southwest Music Conference this next month in Austin on the 15th or the 16th (maybe both) of March. And then we're touring eastward through St. Louis on the 18th and on to the east coast. Let me know if you are interested in seeing the band or hearing it or whatever. We do not either hesitate to mix musical styles or even languages. On the album there is a happy Black Sabbath-polka, protest-funk, dance metal and the more traditional, slightly 70s-ish, experimental ethno-rock, sung in English, Swedish , a bit of Spanish, Swahili and Sanscrit. Is there anything you can't find on the Internet? I'm psyched, because this is the first I've been aware that anyone besides myself had even heard of these guys. I first heard them a few years ago when I was a college DJ at Louisiana Tech. I played them a lot, but when I left school I didn't copy the cd or anything. Then a few weeks ago I was digging through a used cd rack and found both of their releases. I haven't been the same since. I had forgotten what fun this group is, how full of energy. Even their name is great; it combines three of my favorite things: I'm very interested in mental illness, I love funk music, and I think the last part speaks for itself. Anyway, it's too bad we won't be getting any more offerings from them. Maybe you can convince them to do a reunion tour, a la the Eagles. While I'm writing to a homepage dealing with eclectic music, has anyone heard of a group called Snake Hips? They are another college radio classic whom I have never heard from since. Most of the people who wrote to the webpage seem to have gotten theirs the same way I got mine, used. Maybe that explains why they are no longer in operation. It reminds me of a dilemna I have always felt about talented, unknown musicians. When you find something rare and wonderful, it becomes a little less rare and wonderful for you when everyone else discovers it, too. On the other hand, a sense of justice demands that you hope that those with talent will be recognized for it. Depending on where you live, you may have heard of a group called Cowboy Mouth. They are a cool, fun, college-rock band from New Orleans, who have been playing clubs in the South for years. I first heard them my freshman year of college, and I was hooked. Their drummer/lead singer exudes an energy that makes for a great show. Well now they have a major record label, so all the cheesy-ass pop and "alternative" station are playing their single, which they have actually been playing for years. I'm happy for them, but now I have to share the space in front of the stage with a bunch of Green Day fans. (No offense to Green Day, but have these kids ever heard of The Clash?) Anyway, just a couple of thoughts. I'm sure you'll find them to be worth what you paid for them. Thanks for creating the great homepage. I'll be keeping an eye out for Deisel Hed. Later, Clint

I'm kinda shocked to find only one reference to them....they were a big and influential part of the whole "funk thrash" (or whatever the media bo-bo bodies liked to call it) scene in the bay area. Nuclear Rabbit played with Psychefunkapus on January 1st 1993...and when atom's bass broke mid-set, I lent him mine.
